Maj Lionel Parra Jr

​

I would like to nominate my best friend at the

time who is still MIA. Enlisted in the Marine Corps. Entered via Regular Military. Served during

the Vietnam War. Parra had the rank of Major.

 

Service number was 554487046. Served with

III Marine Amphibious Force, 1st MAW,

Mag 11, Vmj 1. Parra was declared missing

and ultimately declared dead on July 17, 1968.

This occurred in or around South Vietnam, Quang Tri province. Recorded circumstances attributed to: "Died while missing in action, air crash on land, Body not recovered".

 

Awards: Air Medal * National Defense Service Medal * Purple Heart * Vietnam Campaign Medal * Vietnam Service Medal

 

Captain Parra was a member

of the Marine Composite Squadron 1,

Marine Air Group 11,

1st Marine Air Wing.

On July 17, 1968, he was flying

in a Skynight Electronic Surveillance

Aircraft (EF10-B) over Quang Tri

Province, South Vietnam, when

contact with the aircraft was lost

Lionel was proud to have served

his country.
